Supreme court has given a landmark
judgement on 2nd Jan, 2017 that no party or candidate shall seek votes on the
basis of caste, creed, or religion and termed it outright 'unconstitutional'. I
whole heartedly welcome this judgement but sadly ground realities are far away
from this and caste/religion based politics is the mainstay of most of the
parties and candidates in the Indian democracy.
Judgement of the apex court is the
right step forward in the process of electoral reforms and I hope that sooner
or later, it would become reality that there is no role of caste or religion in the political sphere of our country.
